Well, it is true that there are things that hold us back from showing up as ourselves.
And believe me, they have plagued me for years.
Here’s some of the things you might be thinking….
I used to think that about myself too.
I would wrack my brain for interesting things to say, But then I realised something.
It’s my firm belief that everyone has a story that would change the lives of others if it were told. The most interesting stories are true stories.
You have all the gold you need to be a truly inspiring storyteller and speaker.
You just need to mine that gold.
True, there are some people out there that seem to ooze charisma.
But they all have one thing in common.
They got comfortable in their own skin.
They love who they are and aren’t afraid to show it.
It really is that simple.
Believe me, as a shy introverted teenager, I never thought I’d be sharing stories up on stage as a speaker and singer-songwriter.
In fact, it wasn’t until I reached 30 that I took action to tackle the shyness that was holding me back in my career and personal life.
I had just found a passion for developing and training others at work. And the next step for me was to give training presentations.
But I felt sick to the stomach just thinking about it. To help me get over the fear I needed support. I found it in the form of a supportive, encouraging group.
In my case, I joined the training department at my firm and developed alongside a small cohort of other secondees. Going through the same process as others made me feel like I wasn’t alone. I could confide in them about my development, share tips and made some friends for life.
If you’re running a business by yourself, you don’t have the benefit of a training department to fall back on. You need to create your own community and support structure to help you grow and develop.
So often, people will attend a public speaking course for one or two days and then never use what they have learned. To me, that is a waste of time. If you’re going to learn something, you need to keep practising it. But the problem is that if you don’t have a community to keep you motivated, you will most likely stop practising after just a few weeks. By joining the club, you will have regular challenges that keep you motivated and you will be developing with a group of community members all going through the same challenges and development so you are much more likely to stay on track and keep learning and growing.
The trainings are not generic public speaking exercises and challenges. They are specific to your needs as a business owner and are focussed on developing skills that will stand you in good stead in finding clients, collaborators and funders.
I provide club members with the benefit of my wisdom developed over more than 20 years of public speaking, but I also make it easy for you to share your own experience and tips.I firmly believe that learning is a two-way process and that we all learn more if we listen to and learn from each other. That’s why the club includes a discussion forum that allows you to share your experience and ensures you have access to more than just one point of view.
As the vast majority of the trainings and challenges are available online, you are able to access these at a time and a pace that best suits you. That is unlike memberships that are in-person only where, if you miss a meeting, you fall behind others.
Well, here’s what you will get from joining the club.
One of the challenges that new speakers find is just starting! Joining something like Toastmasters can feel like a huge step for some people. A softer, easier, step to start with can just be to practice by yourself, talking to camera and building your experience before then talking in front of an audience.
The programme includes plenty of individual exercises to help you find your voice and build your confidence before applying your skills in a group setting. And even then, the groups in which you would speak are kept deliberately small to give you the confidence and assurance of developing your skills in a supportive environment.
With regular practice speaking to camera and small groups, you will get to know and find your own voice and style and also grow in confidence.
What’s more, further exercises I give you around grounding and breathing will give you the skills to manage any fears and anxieties you may feel about speaking in the moment.
The more you talk about your business, the clearer you will get on what you stand for and what you offer.
That will help you to make you and your business more attractive to prospective clients as they will be clearer on what they will get from working with you.
And finally,.. the more success you achieve in getting your message across, the more your confidence will increase, hence increasing the success and profitability of your business.

I help you get a clearer sense of your own style and voice
My philosophy is that speakers and leaders are at their most impactful when they are being truly themselves.
But it’s only when you sit back and observe yourself (with the help of open and honest feedback) that you discover what you need to double-down on.
Here’s what a participants shared from being at one of our workshops:
“I learned that being on stage is actually more about listening than speaking. It's about listening to yourself, your emotions, rhythm & body language, discovering many ways you can connect with your audience, just by being yourself.”
I give you greater confidence in your abilities to present
We can only allow our true style and strength to shine through if we are feeling confident in our own abilities. That is why I have always focused on confidence building and anxiety management in the public speaking coaching work I do.
Here’s what some of my clients have said about this side of my work and the workshops I’ve lead with others:
“It is important to verbalise and express what your goals are so you understand these yourself, get positive feedback from the group and to feel that inner belief to go after them.”
“I felt it crucial at that moment that I needed more belief in myself. Richard quickly helped me identify strengths and attributes in me I was proud of and would help me combat the challenges I faced.”
“Richard helped me be productive and less judgmental of my own progress and made me able to be more positive during what was a very challenging time.”
I help you to make connections
Through my group work, I always provide a safe space for participants to share their most intimate stories. And by sharing, the participants get to know each other so much more deeply and make powerful connections along the way.
That is why I designed the Fearless Speakers’ Club to foster community, so we can all learn from and support each other.
Not only that, the more proficient you get at telling your own story, the easier it will become to connect with potential clients, collaborators and referral partners.
One of the participants in one of our workshops summed it up beautifully:
“It can help people with any background or personality to learn the art of speaking and delivering a clear message.
That empowers relationships to be deeper and more meaningful.”
